Community Child Care Center uses the Creative Curriculum which is rooted in child development theory and practice. In this framework, children interact with materials and their peers and use the learning environment -- indoors and outdoors -- to see themselves as capable learners. We believe that play is the natural and most effective way children learn. Through play, social interaction with peers and hands-on activities, your child's cognitive, social, emotional and physical growth is enhanced.
Our teachers build on your child's interests and strengths to meet his/her individual needs. Each age group has its own developmental goals. Our curriculum includes developing the following:
Infant to One Year Olds
- Interaction with caring, nurturing staff that builds a sense of security and trust.
- An environment that promotes achievement of developmental milestones.
Two to Three Year Olds
- Independence in a secure, consistent environment.
- Self-help skills.
- Language and social development.
Three to Four Year Olds
- Cooperative play
- Active curiosity through exposure and exploration
- Listening and communication skills
Four to Five Year Olds and Over
- Kindergarten-readiness skills
- Problem solving and effective interaction
- Self-esteem and positive attitudes toward learning
The Creative Curriculum
We strongly believe in the "Creative Curriculum" approach in educating young children. Research shows that children learn best through hands on creative play. We stock our school rooms with toys that promote creative, imaginative play with teachers providing environments where children learn through discovery and hands-on activities. Children spend their days building with blocks, painting, creating unique things out of paper, glue and other items.
Teachers engage children in individual and group activities appropriate to their ages including calendar time, reading to a group or individual, celebrating and discussing holidays, seasons, nature, music and more. A strong emphasis is placed on learning social skills. It is these skills that provide a firm foundation for our children to grow into responsible students and citizens.
We believe strongly in meeting children where they are at developmentally and giving them avenues to continue to develop.
